This is the Pre-19921 playlist I sent Brandon H.

I procrastinated writing up this list, so I've lost the exact order they were in. I for sure know the first and last songs.

First, we start out with Wanna Be Startin' Somethin' by Michael Jackson. Such a good song for Startin' Somethin' like a playlist.

Ironically, we also have I Can't Remember by Alice in Chains. For a lot of these songs, I wanted to pick somewhat lesser-known songs that are still great from widely known albums.

Speaking of slightly lesser known, About A Girl by Nirvana from the album Bleach. I love this song and Kurt Kobain said in their MTV Unplugged that people didn't listen to Bleach.

Birdhouse In Your Soul by They Might Be Giants. This is the first of 4 songs I put on here by TMBG. When it comes to pre-1992 songs, especially with me being born in 1991, I listened to a lot of them. They were also the first concert I saw live!

Mistadobalina by Del Tha Funky Homosapien is just such a neat song with a catchy hook with the sample “Mister Dobalina, Mister Bob Dobalina” (Semi-related note, I make myself giggle thinking of this song when someone is using a Bloblobber in Splatoon, I say “Mister blobalina, mister blob blobalina”)

Paul Revere by Beastie Boys. Some of these, like this one, probably don't fit my lesser known criteria, but it's just a good song and fits in well with the other songs I put around it on the MiniDisc.

Dumb Girl by Run DMC. This one is fun and I had never heard it until recently I found an old Cassette of Raising Hell. I only ever had a Greatest Hits CD of Run DMC growing up.

Down In It by Nine Inch Nails. Pretty Hate Machine, in my opinion, totally unfounded by any amount of research, was inspired by the beats of Run DMC, just twisted a bit and modernized for the late 80s going into 90s.

You Be Illin' by Run DMC. Just a funny song, one of my favorites growing up. I would always crack up thinking about the verse “This dude walks in, lookin strange and kinda funny, he walked up to the front with a menu and his money, he asked this old lady 'yo yo uhh is this Kentucky Fried?' The lady said yes, smiled and he smiled back. He gave a quarter and his order 'Small Fries, BIG MAC'”

Mama Said Knock You Out by LL Cool J. This is where I started ramping up the energy of the playlist.

Suck My Kiss by Red Hot Chili Peppers. Funky bass from Flea, nonsense lyrics from Kiedis, this is my favorite era of RHCP.

Crackerman by Stone Temple Pilots. Another energetic one with wild lyrics.

Negative Creep by Nirvana, also from the album Bleach. This is one of their shorter, very high energy songs.

Creep by Stone Temple Pilots. Bringing down the energy just a bit, plus this song is technically negated by Negative Creep.

Broken by Tears for Fears. The song right before the more widely known Head Over Heels. No words til the later half of the song, chill grooves and still has the main melodic motif of Head Over Heels. I tried to put this one right in the middle of the playlist.

I Palindrome I by They Might Be Giants. This one I remember listening to a lot as a child from a mix CD someone must have made with mostly their educational songs and funny ones, but I didn't remember this one starting with “Someday Mother will die and I'll get the money” and leading into the first chorus with “You son of a bitch, I Palindrome I”

Particle Man by They Might Be Giants. This one I know was on that weird mix CD from my childhood as one of the funny ones. It was also featured in an episode of Tiny Toon Adventures as well as Istanbul, which I didn't include in this playlist because everyone probably knows it from The Umbrella Academy on Netflix now. Plus I couldn't make exactly 1/4 of this playlist They Might Be Giants.

We Die Young by Alice in Chains. A good example of a grunge ballad. Also, I placed this as the penultimate song leading into…

Dead by They Might Be Giants. “Now it's over, I'm dead and I haven't done anything that I want, or I'm still alive and there's nothin' I want to do.” The playlist is over and you didn't hear any songs you want. Or it's still going and there's nothing you want to listen to.

I hope you liked this Minidisc! I printed out a label on some cool shiny, holographic paper I have, but I just moved and I don't have my own printer so I had to use my apartment's office printer and it's only black and white.
