8bit's chronal aberration disc for SpecialK

This was the first time I ever had to work within the confines of an external theme, which was an interesting challenge! I turned 10 in November 1992, and a disc of songs I listened to then would've been fairly one-note and boring. Instead, I took the “what would I put on my first MD in November 1992?” to mean “what would I, right now, put on a minidisc for my 10-year-old self?”.

I established a core set of songs that unintentionally provided a theme of their own, and then it was a bit of trial and error, adding and subtracting and moving until the tracks and order felt right. The goal was for it to act as both the disc for my 10-year-old self (songs I knew + songs I would grow to love) as well as to provide an interesting, balanced disc with at least a few songs Kieran had never heard. And as soon as I shipped it I thought of other songs I could've tried to squeeze in

Included in the package was a Field Notes notebook with a letter and tracklist for Kieran, as well as a 3-pack of Field Notes so he can sample another of my obsessions. All tracks were recorded from the offline/downloaded Tidal playlist on my Google Pixel 4a 5g to a 74min TDK disc on my MDS-JB930, and each was loving named using the jog wheel on the deck. I don't have a printer so the disc itself is to-the-point, but it's what's on the inside that counts.
