Nearly identical to its predecessor Technics SJ-MD100. The only difference is that the Technics SJ-MD150 is equipped with the HDES (High Density Encoding System), a newly developed proprietary audio compression technology (= newer ATRAC version). This circuit realizes compression of high-quality music signals by assigning bits to the frequency band that is optimal for audibility, reducing preecho noise by dividing the time axis into optimal segments, and reducing quantization noise by using a new quantization method.

Features:

  • H.D.E.S. (High Density Encoding System)
  • 24-bit DSP Processing & 20 bit A/D-D/A converter system
  • A/D-Converter for 32/ 44.1/ 48 kHz digital recording
  • Edit function: DIVIDE, COMBINE, MOVE, ERASE ONE, ERASE ALL
  • Digital input/ output: 2 optical/ 1 optical
  • Analog connector: gold-plated
  • Comfortable titel choice and text input via jog dial
  • TA-KEH capacitors
  • Remote control (Technics EUR645272) with 33 buttons

Other specifications:

  • SNR: 99dB
  • Dynamic Range: 97dB
  • Frequency response: 5 to 20,000 Hz (±0.3 dB)
  • Channels: 2 stereo channels

Reports:

  • Stereo 7/2000: sound level 54 %, price/performance: 1 star, good: “Puristically equipped, warm in sound with muted highs and limited dynamics”.
