From Sony's product page:

Equipped with ATRAC / ATRAC3 DSP TYPE-S that further improves the playback sound quality in MDLP mode. It is now possible to reproduce even minute sounds that were previously truncated, reducing noise by approximately 6 dB compared to our conventional model. The effect is also exhibited when playing on a portable MD player.

In addition, the dynamic range of the core DSP for ATRAC and the audio data of peripheral circuits such as digital in / out have been increased from 16 bits of the MD standard to more bits.

We have also introduced wide bitstream technology for recording and playback with a wide dynamic range. Since there is a margin in the number of bits, more faithful recording / playback is possible with the original sound. In addition, it is equipped with an SF edit function that allows you to readjust the level later even if the recording level is uneven due to differences in the input source.

You can also fade out a song that has been cut off in the middle, or start with an impressive fade-in. MDS-JE580 pursues quality as an audio component. It can be used as a center deck for MDs that are widely used.
