Sony's first netMD deck. Unlike earlier decks such as the MDS-PC1, this device used netMD instead of a connection kit. netMD was an attempt to standardize PC connections among devices. The MDS-NT1 was launched alongside the MZ-N1, LAM-Z1, and CMT-C7NT as the first generation of netMD devices.

One of the few drive style devices, this deck has very little in the way of physical controls. With just a Play/Pause and Stop/Eject button on the front, playback is best controlled over netMD. There is a volume control for the headphone out too, but it is located on the back of the device next to the 3.5mm port (my volume potentiometer needed a cleaning to clear up sound when I first got mine).

The NetMD text right under the drive on the front will glow orange when connected to power, and an even brighter orange when a usb connection is detected. Controls, excepting stop/eject, are also locked out when it is connected to a PC. The orange light will flash to indicate the controls are locked. The flashing of the indicator light is also used to display error codes, check the manual for more information.

Works without issue with Platinum (v1.1.0 and later) and web minidisc. You can also use it with Sonicstage or OpenMG using the 64bit drivers (the NetMD-760 drivers worked for me). Doesn't seem to support full-width titles, but more testing is needed to confirm.

Opinion: Overall this a cool device that works well as a PC recorder. I love the heck out of mine, but you'd probably be better off spending the money on a Type-S portable recorder(like the MZ-N910 or MZ-N707 or something similar), or a deck with actual controls and remote support( MDS-JB980 or MDS-S500 for example).
