The last portable MiniDisc recorder produced by Sony.

When originally released, it was the only device capable of transferring recordings made on standard MiniDiscs back to a computer, however, this functionality is now available to all USB-equipped HiMD portables as well as a number of NetMD portables thanks to the WebMiniDisc project. A list of the NetMD portables which support this feature can be found Here

There is no functional difference between the MZ-RH1 and MZ-M200. The only difference between the two devices, other than branding, is that the M200 was specifically marketed as a field recorder and sold in a bundle with the Sony ECM-DS70P stereo microphone.

Notes for Modern Day Buyers:

  • The OLED screens (there are actually two) are known to fail, and there is (currently) no easy way to replace them. Here is a video that demonstrates the repair process using identical screens harvested from a Network Walkman device.
  • The original LIP-4WM battery is no longer available. Most OEM versions have long since lost most of their capacity or even their ability to recharge. Modern aftermarket replacements can be found online, as well as alternative options for building your own replacement cell using 3D printing, as seen Here

Switching between Hi-MD and MD modes without a display

If your display has failed, use these steps to switch between Hi-MD and standard MD modes:

  • Insert a disc
  • Wait 5 seconds
  • Hold Display/Menu for 2 seconds
  • Down
  • Enter
  • Down x 4
  • Enter
  • Down
  • Enter

Use the same steps to change back to Hi-MD mode.
