Hey Laurent!

Hope you enjoyed the music I picked for you! (sorry if you hated it) Anyway, here's a short track by track synopsis of what each track is and why I chose it.

1. Tim Reaper - Final Destination

This track is a nice easy Jungle track to get us started. I picked this as I first heard it around last Christmas time and it always makes me think of that time of year.

2. DJ Bogdan - Love inna chimney (Times new roadman bootleg)

I picked this track up off a cheesy Christmas remix EP of Techno, Grime, Drum n Bass and UK Garage tracks called “Gakkest Ever Gak” on Bandcamp. There's a couple more tracks from the EP in this mix but I really like this one as I love the original song; DJ Bogdan (Objekt) - Love inna basement.

3. Black Midi - Jingle Bell Rock

This version of the Christmas classic comes from a two track EP that British Alt-Rock band Black Midi made in 2020 with all proceeds supporting popular South London venue The Windmill in Brixton. I really liked this track especially and it's one of the few Christmas songs I listen to every year and I love their rather quirky take on it.

4. Floating Points - LesAlpx

I first heard this track in December 2019 on Mary-Anne Hobbs' show on BBC Radio 6 music and it was on repeat in my room all Christmas long in that year. Love Floating Points and would love to catch him live some time in 2023.

5. Party Parrot - Eski Bells

Another track from Gakkest Ever Gak, this time a remix of Wiley's eskibeat classic, Morgue. Turned into the tune of Jingle Bells, I first heard this track in a recording of HMT Hard Cru live at FOLD in London. Track always makes me laugh as I honestly don't understand who would come up with something like this but it's cool and it bangs so.

6. On Christmas Day…

Short clip from Karnage & Maximum with Wiley live on Rinse FM back on Christmas Day 2004. “Suck your mum, on Christmas day, like i care” has a more iconic line ever been spoken?

7. Wiley - (Festive) Igloo (Times New Roadman bootleg)

The final track from Gakkest Ever Gak, this time a Christmas remix of Wiley's Igloo. I remember being locked down indoors over Christmas in 2020 and hearing this track and just jumping around my room out of boredom. Love the energy of this track and always gets people moving.

8. Black Midi - What Christmas Means To Me

The second track from Black Midi's Christmas covers. Again just a really fun take on the original.

9. Floating Points - Coorabell

This track was the B side of LesAlpx, and I've included it for the same reasons. Heard this track in Joy Orbison & Ben UFO's now infamous 3 hour b2b at XOYO back in August of 2019. Listened to this so much at the same time as LesAlpx and they both deserve to be here for that reason alone.

10. Excerpt from Kettama, Shampain and Tommy Holohan b2b live on Rinse FM, 24/12/2020

Listened to this 2 hour set Live on Rinse absolutely hammered in my room on Christmas eve that year. Some of the blends were crazy and I had it on so loud in my room my mum kept coming in telling me to turn it down. Banging mix and always makes me think of Christmas.

11. Sully - Swandive

Absolute banger from Sully. Think I bought this EP on Bandcamp not long after seeing Sully DJ at Tim Reaper's Future Retro 001 club night at Peckham Audio in December 2021. The raging snares never fail to make me go mad.

12. Tim Reaper - Give me More

This track is insane. Takes me back always to when i first heard it on Ben UFO's show on Rinse FM in December 2020. Tim Reaper and Dwarde did an hour long b2b guest mix where they absolutely ripped the place to shreds and recorded what i think is the best hour of jungle music ever recorded, culminating in dropping this track which blew my head up when i first heard it. Recently been re-released on Vinyl and Digital over on the Future Retro bandcamp page.

13. Babyfather - Greezebloc

Slightly more relaxing track. This is my favourite track from Babyfather's iconic 2016 Album “BBF Hosted by DJ Escrow” and for me sums up just what winter in Britain is like. Love this track and love Dean Blunt.

14. WHAM! - Last Christmas (HardEditz Remix)

You have to go out with a bang don't you? This track always makes me laugh and I first heard it again in HMT Hard Cru's live set at FOLD.

So yeah, I hope you enjoyed this little preview into what kind of music I like to listen to at this time of year and hopefully you've found some new music you like! Merry Christmas!

Bonus pic: me and my cat recording this mix for you :)
