The DSC-MD1 was first announced at the '97 World PC Expo. It is a still image camera and does not take video. It can play music from a standard MD, but does not record. Supports Mono SP playback.

It has infra-red data transfer feature (IrDA) that can transmit to PCs, other Sony digital cameras and the DPP-M55 photo printer. Uses a MD Data disc that can store up to 2000 images. Max Resolution is 640×480.
